FITD Fine Things: the Handwritten Note

So, it has been a while. Happy Belated New Year!! I hope everyone is well.

One of my resolutions this year--inasmuch as I do them--is to be better about written correspondence with friends and family.

And it's not that I don't know what's going on with everyone. I do. Because of Facebook, I know what they had for dinner. They know what I had for dinner. We share recipes and ideas via status updates. We text back and forth while standing in line at Target.

(My BFF called me once to ask where a certain ingredient was at her grocery store. She lives 800 miles away. What makes this funny is that I have almost done the exact same thing to her.)

Technology--and it is one of the things I love best about it--gives us the illusion that we are closer together than we really are.We use social media and technology in the same way we would put pen to paper to communicate. (I'm not complaining--if it were possible to surgically attach my Kindle, I would.)

But there is just something nice about receiving a handwritten note--whether it's a thank you or just a, "Hey, I'm thinking about you!" It's a show of caring and thoughtfulness. (And it's not a bill.)

To that end, I indulged in a lovely box of Crane stationery. Growing up, thank you notes and letters to my grandmother were de rigueur, and I always had a set of stationery at the ready. Over the years, I have not been as diligent as I would like, so if I owe you a thank you note, I am really sorry.

The best part, though? The engraving. It just feels nice. (I'm a paper-and-pen junkie.) There is just something so classic and timeless about a quality writing paper.
